Anavo πυρπολώ – verb. To ignite or spark

Anavo was founded by Jamie, Tom, and Ed, three friends who shared a simple yet profound vision: improving elderly care with heart, not just charts. We’re not chasing meaningless awards or simply focusing on hefty bank accounts; we’re in it to offer a better type of care, where community and genuine connection are at the forefront of what we do. We want to do things differently and to shake things up. Anavo isn’t your typical care home group; where others say ‘that’s not how care works’, we say ‘why not?’, so we can make care with a difference, accessible to more people.

Our care is inspired by special Blue Zone communities worldwide, where people live long and nourishing lives. There’s no real science to it, but there are certainly similarities across these communities: regular exercise, good food, and good company! We’ve ensured that our care is centred around seeing people for who they are, encouraging physical activity, and inspiring a true sense of purpose.

Anavo is for those who value something different from their care provider. Those craving a transparent and refreshing approach. Those who appreciate authenticity and recognise the benefit of
a holistic approach to care.

Our name? It’s more than just a word; it’s a promise – to be the flicker of hope in what can often be a delicate and challenging time for families.

We bring the Spark

True to our name, originating from the Greek word to ‘ignite’ or ‘spark’, we’re here to illuminate the way, supporting people to make care choices they’re happy and at ease with.

Finding the right care home for a loved one is hard. And we understand our care is often the last resort, triggered by an event no one was quite ready for. Dark days? It can certainly feel like that.

But it doesn’t have to be like this. We’re dedicated to brightening things up and committed to being a beacon of hope and positivity. A force for good in elderly care, and a reassuring light for families everywhere. We don’t pretend it’s easy, or that we can wave a magic wand and instantly improve lives. But we believe our spark can grow and spread, leading to positive change and progress.

The Spark, day-to-day

It was a real ‘aha’ moment when we stumbled upon our name and its meaning. We all felt it. Anavo was more than a name. But, for it to live authentically and be the flicker of hope and inspiration we intended, it needed some guiding principles. Some foundations to bring it to life in the real world and to influence the thoughts and behaviour of every team member across Anavo. We continually review these, add to them, and amend them to ensure the ‘spark’ has the impact envisioned.

Anavo illuminates the way

The care journey can be stressful and frightening, so we try to ensure our services are never hard to interact with. Whether that’s online or face-to-face, we remove friction and always make it easy for our customers, team and residents.

Anavo is a symbol of quality

The je ne sais quois. The spark. Quality is not something that is easy to define. But for us, quality means we never cut corners, we don’t settle for ‘that’ll do’ and we sweat the small stuff to strive to ensure an Anavo experience is always a positive one.

Anavo is always moving forwards

For the Anavo spark to remain bright we must continually progress. That means we listen and improve. Nothing is ever perfect, but we have the energy and passion to create, innovate, and deliver the best experience possible.

What we value

We are authentic

We are a group of people who share a genuine desire to make a difference.

To improve the lives and experiences of our residents. To support our teams and make them happier. To be innovative and thoughtful in our work. To share in the highs and lows. We’re always honest – we’ve got nothing to hide. We respect that every person is different. But there are plenty of things that connect us. We want the same things – to be happy and healthy.

We build communities

Enjoying the time we spend together. Staying in touch. Helping and supporting each other. Celebrating what we have in common and our differences. Care homes are built on relationships. Between residents, our team, families, local people, charities, professionals. The list goes on. There are so many people who contribute to making a safe and happy home. We create the environment – lots of amenities, lots of opportunity – and everyone is welcome.

We create opportunities

We take a proactive approach to providing people with opportunities. Having a purpose, a sense of meaning and choices can be hugely beneficial to creating a healthy lifestyle and a better personal outlook. We are keen to make this happen for all our residents and our teams. Maybe this means we must step out of our comfort zone. Maybe we have to do something that hasn’t been done before. Maybe we won’t be able to do everything. But we’ll always try to give a person the opportunity they deserve.

We are humble

Anavo started as an idea – passionate people who felt elderly care could be better. We are grateful to do the job we do and privileged that people give us the opportunity to try and deliver better care for their loved ones. It’s a massive responsibility and we do not take it for granted. We’ll always strive to do the best we can, be kind and continuously try to improve.

We plan for the future

We are committed to leaving a positive impact on the people and places we are responsible for. The world’s resources are finite, and we need to protect them for future generations through the actions we take. This can be through changing our own behaviour to reduce our environmental impact or as a business working with suppliers who share our commitment to sustainability. Everyone at Anavo has a part to play to build a brighter future.

Our Road to B-Corp

In keeping with our value of planning for the future, we recognise the need to operate in the most sustainable and positively impactful way possible. That’s why, in 2023, we embarked on the journey to become one of the world’s first B-Corp-certified elderly care groups. With the help of our sustainability partner, Futureproof, we’re ensuring that the impact of every aspect of our business is considered. Whether that’s moving towards a goal of net zero care, providing the best possible career and working opportunities for our employees, or thinking about how we can benefit all our stakeholders.

This isn’t a ‘quick win’ process; lasting change takes time, but we’re committed to the cause because a more sustainable Anavo means a better world for everyone.
